Mt.Siangyang,Sancha,and Jiaming Lake(陽 、三叉、嘉明湖)

Siangyangshan(向陽山): It was an elevation of 3608 meters, and ranked No.16 in the list of 100 Peaks in Taiwan. It offered a 360-degree outlook to watch mountains, such as Mt.Yunfeng, Yushan, Xiugulu Mountains, peaks near Guanshan, Sanchashan, Xinkang mountain, Nanshunagtou Mountain, Mabolasih mountains and Brakshan.

Sanchashan(三叉山): It was an elevation of 3496 meters, ranked No.28 in the list of 100 Peaks in Taiwan. Its outlook was excellent. Mt. Yunfeng, Yushan, Siangyangshan, Guanshan, and Xinkang Mountain were in sight while looking around on its top.

Jiaming Lake(嘉明湖):It was an altitude of 3310 meters, located 900 meters away from the east side of Sanchashan, and it was the second highest alpine lake in Taiwan. (lower than Cui Pond, an altitude of 3520 meters in Xueshan). The lake was formed by a meteor strike, which was 120 meters long, 80 meters wide, and 6 meters deep. Due to its blue deep color, it was referred to as “Angel's teardrop


itinerary:

D-1 Chiayi/stayed at Siama B&B in Haiduan Township Taitung County

15:00 set off from Chiayi / Exited at /Nanzhou Interchange from Highway No.3 / Fengkang / Taitung / Guanshan bound for Southern Cross-Island Provincial Highway. (or turned left at Chishang Gas Station to provincial highway Tai 20, driving 5 kilometers later and then turned right to Southern Cross-Island Provincial Highway)

22:00 arrived at Siama B&B in Haiduan Township Taitung County. 089-935086 (located at Provincial Highway Tai 20, kilometer 189.1)NT400/each person including breakfast Nt50 and a thermal bath Nt100.

D+1 Siangyang National Forest Recreation Area / Xiangyang cabin / Siangyangshan / Jiaming Lake Cabin

05:30 after breakfast, driving to Liukou Hot Spring at 183.1K Tai 20 and Motian (Lisong Hot Spring)

07:20 hiked from Siangyang Visitor Center to the trailhead of Siangsong Trail. (Tai 20 Kilometer 154.4)

07:50 got to the indicator < Jiaming Lake 11.5K & trailhead 1.5K & Siangyang Cabin 2.78K >. Take a break for 30 minutes at the observation deck. Guanshan, Taguanshan, and Guanshanlingshan could be seen from here.

08:55 passed by two small waterfalls. We saw a wooden bridge at a collapse site. After going through the bridge, we took the path on the left to go up. It was a two-leaf pine forest.

110:00 at the indicator < Jiaming Lake 9.4K & back to the trailhead 2.6K > , which was elevation of 2850 meters. We took a break for 50 minuters. It was a steep trail.

11:30 got to a campsite, altitude of 3130M. an indicator < Jiaming Lake 7.7K & trailhead 5.3K> .took a break for 20 minutes, and kept hiking along the trail on the left.

11:55 an indicator < Jiaming Lake 7.5 & trailhead 5.5K & Jaiming Lake Cabin 2.9K >

13:00 got to the first ridgeline and saw a beautiful Yushan Sabina (3305M). an indicator < Jiaming Lake 6K & Jiaming Lake Cabin 1.4K & trailhead 8.7K >. Took a break for 20 minutes.

13:00 the landscape of Siangyang Great Cliff, followed by a steep slope trail of 800 meters.

14:00 got to the second ridgeline.

14:10 got to an intersection. < 7.4K > an indicator, an elevation of 3490M, and < Jiaming Lake Cabin 1K >. We unloaded our backpacks and hiked toward the summit of Siangyongshan.

14:45 got to the top of Siangyongshan. It offered a 360-degree outlook to watch mountains, such as Mt.Yunfeng, Yushan, Xiugulu Mountains, peaks near Guanshan, Sanchashan, Xinkang mountain, Nanshunagtou Mountain, Mabolasih mountains and Brakshan. We returned after taking some pictures.

14:25 back to the intersection of the indicator < 7.4K >. We took the trail toward Jiaming Lake Cabin.

14:55 passed by a campsite.

15:05 an indicator < 8.4K >. We arrived at Jiaming Lake Cabin and stayed a night. There was 8 water tanks and 2 storages, which could accommodate 20 people in the case of an emergency. It offered water and toilets to use. There were 70 bunks inside the cabin. Behind the cabin, you could see Xinkang Mountain on the far left and the Braksan Mountain on the right.

D+2 Jiaming Lake Cabin / Siangyongshan North Peak / Sanchasha / Jiaming Lake / Jiaming Lake Cabin

06:40 we slept until late in the morning, and then hiked with light packs after having breakfast.

06:45 an intersection < Sanchashan 3.7K & Siangyongshan 1.1K & trailhead 8.7K >. We hiked toward Sanchashan.

07:30 < Jiaming Lake 3K & trailhead 10.5K> an indicator. We went down about 150M and then climbed up to the North Peak for 2 minutes. standing on the top, you could see a wonderful view .

07:59 an indicator < Jiaming Lake 2.5K & trailhead 10.5K >. A steep slope down for 500 meters long.

08:13  passed by the “greeting trees”

08:40 the first intersection of the route of Sanchashan, < go left to the summit of Sanchashan 0.85K & trailhead 11.5K & go right to Jaiming Lake 1K >

09:20 got to the top of Sanchashan. It provided a 360-degree outlook to watch Yushan, Yushan North Peak, and Mabolasih mountains. We took some pictures and a break for 15 minutes, and then toward Jiaming Lake.

09:33 got to the second intersection. < Sanchashan 0.6K & Jiaming Lake 0.3K & Xinkang >. We hiked toward Jiaming Lake.

09:40 got to Jiaming Lake and had lunch and a break for one and half hours. It was an altitude of 3310 meters, located 900 meters away from the southeast side of Sanchashan, and it was the second highest alpine lake in Taiwan. (lower than Cui Pond, an altitude of 3520 meters in Xueshan). The lake was formed by a meteor strike, which was 120 meters long, 80 meters wide, and 6 meters deep. 11:00 to see a big grass field for an hour.

15:00 back to Jiaming Lake Cabin and stayed a night.

D+3  Jiaming Lake Cabin / Siangyang National Forest Recreation Area / Chiayi

04:50 returned from Jiaming Lake Cabin.

05:30 back to the trailhead of Siangyongshan. Took a short break.

07:30 back to Siangyongshan Cabin.

09:30 back to Siangyang National Forest Recreation Area and got on bus.

10:30 got to Liukou Hot Spring and had some fun.

11:00 got to Siama B&B to have a meal and have a thermal bath.

14:10 to a restaurant(太平洋鮮魚店), which was on Provincial Highway No.9, to taste seafood cuisine

18:00 got to Chiayi.
